At Kirkby Stephen Grammar School, we believe that all students should achieve their full potential within a supportive and inclusive environment. Our SEND department is dedicated to ensuring that pupils on the Code of Practice can fully access all aspects of school life and flourish, both academically and socially, while being prepared for adulthood.
We are committed to creating a school environment where the individual needs and aspirations of our students and their families are at the heart of a personalised approach to education. By fostering a culture of inclusion, we aim to ensure every young person feels valued, supported, and equipped to thrive.
At Kirkby Stephen Grammar School, our intention for SEND provision is to deliver a high-quality, ambitious education for all, regardless of need or disability. We aim to empower our pupils to become independent, curious learners both in and out of the classroom.
Through high-quality planning, teaching, and support, we:
- Prioritise early identification and intervention to maximise progress and opportunities for students with SEND.
- Ensure all young people have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, adapted to make learning purposeful and relevant.
- Provide an accessible and tailored learning environment to meet the individual needs of each pupil.
- Develop pupils’ independence and life skills to prepare them for the future.
- Regularly monitor the progress of pupils with SEND using a child-centred approach.
- Deliver effective and up-to-date training for staff to ensure the best support for pupils with SEND.
- Work in partnership with parents and carers to support their child’s journey.
- Collaborate with external agencies and professionals to refine and enhance our provision for SEND pupils.
