LGBTQ+ Information

At Kirkby Stephen Grammar School, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and respectful environment where every student feels able to be themselves.

As part of this commitment, we actively recognise and celebrate Pride Month, using it as an opportunity to educate students about:

  • Diversity and inclusion
  • Equality and human rights
  • The experiences of the LGBTQ+ community

🧠 Why This Matters

Research shared with students highlights that:

  • LGBTQ+ young people can experience higher rates of bullying and discrimination
  • Some may feel unable to be themselves in school

At KSGS, we are committed to addressing this by promoting:

  • Respect for all
  • A zero-tolerance approach to bullying
  • Not accepting or tolerating any homophobic, transphobic or discriminatory language
  • A culture where every student feels safe and valued

🤝 Being an Ally

Students are encouraged to understand that being an ally means:

  • Showing respect to everyone
  • Using inclusive language
  • Standing up against discrimination
  • Supporting friends and peers

🛟 Support for Students

Students are reminded that support is always available:

In School:

  • Tutors
  • Pastoral team
  • Safeguarding team
  • Trusted staff members

External Support:

Students are always encouraged to speak to a trusted adult if they have concerns or need support.
