Year 7 Music
In music at KSGS, year 7 is all about developing the foundation skills and about learning to appreciate music in all its forms from this country and around the world.
We study 6 projects:
Autumn 1 - Jazz in the Classroom: Understanding Swing, Jazz Melody and Improvisation
Autumn 2 - Practical Understanding of the Elements of Music through Listening and Composition based on Seasonal Music.
Spring 1 -The Features of African Music: Listening, Polyrhythmic Percussion Performance and Pentatonic Composition
Spring 2 - Chords and Harmony - Learning through Popular Arrangements
Summer 1 - Variations on a theme: Listening and Composition
Summer 2 - Ceremonial Music: Creating and Performing Music for an Occasion
The topics are taught through listening tasks, performing in ensembles and alone and through composition tasks. Students have many opportunities to use departmental ICT resources - Sibelius.
